Metal fences have been installed around the National Palace in Mexico City as part of security measures ahead of the International Women's Day March. President Claudia Sheinbaum justified this action by claiming that the fences are intended to protect women more than historical monuments. Sheinbaum mentioned that her government has promoted changes in favor of women in the Constitution, established the Women's Secretariat, and will present the women's charter on March 8.
Different feminist groups are expected to participate in the 8M 2025 March in the capital next Saturday. For this reason, buildings in the Historic Center, including the National Palace, have been guarded with metal fences. President Sheinbaum stated that the fences are primarily to protect women from potential risk situations during the march, particularly in light of the threat of vandalism.
Regarding the concentration on March 8, feminism will march on the main avenues of Mexico City starting at 11:30 am. Various collectives, such as Señantes Women, Tetas y Rayas, Antifascist Solidarity, and the Transcontingent, have scheduled different times and meeting points to join the mobilization. These activities and meetings leading up to the march aim to create a space for reflection and advocacy for women's rights.
